Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and Vanderbilt Mansion, NY* 1407

In 1895, Frederick Vanderbilt, grandson of the Commodore, built his country estate overlooking the Hudson River in Hyde Park. With more than 600 acres of landscaped property and a palatial Beaux-Arts mansion, the estate came to symbolize the enourmous wealth accumulated by a priviledged few during the Gilded Age. Today the home is preserved as a National Historic Site. We will have a guided tour of the newly renovated mansion and have time to explore the formal gardens. We will enjoy lunch at the CIA (menu: Arugula salad with marinated roasted baby beets, spicy pecans, and poppyseed vinaigrette; Sauteed chicken breast with roasted garlic potato gratin, sauteed spinach with lemon butter sauce, Hudson Valley Apple Galette with vanilla ice cream and cider caramel sauce; coffee, tea and iced tea). Special dietary needs to be communicated in advance. If special needs is cummincated the day of the trip, a $10 fee will be charged. Cost of alcoholic beverages are your responsibility. Trip includes motor coach transportation, group leader, guided of the Vanderbilt Mansion and lunch at the CIA.

Dress is business casual (no jeans or sneakers) in the restaurant. Cost for trips includes non-refundable but transferable (to another person) fee. Everyone must pay the full tuition. No tuition waivers apply. On rare occasions the bus company may cancel a trip due to severe weather conditions. Reminder: Absolutely no drinking of alcoholic beverages allowed on the bus. All bus trips have scheduled departure and return times that are strictly followed. It is your responsibility to be at the bus one time go to and from your trip destination. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
