General Education Development (GED)

This program prepares students to pass the 5-part exam to earn a State of Connecticut diploma. Students receive necessary instruction in each subject area and can take practice GED tests with their instructor.

To register for the GED exam, or enroll in GED classes students must be 16 years old and officially withdrawn from school for 6 months or their 9th grade class must have graduated.

The GED exam is given monthly at locations throughout the state.  Students can register to take the GED exam through West Hartford Continuing Education.

Daytime Preparation Classes About the GED
Instructor: Astrid Robitaille The GED test has 5 sections:
Location: West Hartford Public Schools

Room 304
- Writing/Grammar     - Social Studies
- Science                   - Literature & the Arts 
- Mathematics
Time: Tuesday & Thursday
10:30 am - 12:30 pm
The test is offered on 2 Saturdays or 3 evenings.
Registration: January 15 and 17
Room 304, 10:30 am - 12:00 noon
(allow one hour for registration)
Adults who do not pass the GED test do not have to retake the entire test.  They may retake only the necessary sections.  Participants must earn an overall score of 2250 and a score of at least 400 on each section.
Start Date: Tuesday, January 22
14 weeks
After Jan. 17 new students may register every Tuesday at 10:30 am in class.

Evening Preparation Classes

Registration: January 14 and 16
Room 303, 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Start Date: Wednesday, January 23
14 weeks
After Jan. 16 new students may register every Monday or Wednesday at 7:00 pm in class.

6:30 - 8:30 pm
Registration: January 15 and 17
Cafeteria, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Start Date: Tuesday, January 22

After Jan. 17 new students may register every Monday or Wednesday at 6:30 pm in Room 14.
